Audemars Piguet, a Swiss haute horlogerie brand, has launched an innovative concept watch that combines superior engineering and acoustic design. The eight-year in-depth acoustic research program has realized three patent applications, resulting in this unique prototype work-RoyalOak Royal Oak Concept Watch. Audemars Piguet will present this new masterpiece at the 2015 SIHH.
HD Acoustic Masterpiece
This new RoyalOak concept watch was produced in the Audemars Piguet Acoustics Research Lab. It is the first timepiece with unique acoustic design and unique sound concept. Audemars Piguet has been working with the Ecole Polytechnique Fédéralede Lausanne to carry out relevant acoustic research. It took three years to transform the results of technical research into a concept watch. Based on this, the watchmaker set the sonic target scientifically, measured and produced the ‘perfect’ minute repeater sound, and its volume reached an unprecedented level.
Audemars Piguet uses the principle of making stringed instruments to make breakthroughs in the sound quality technology of chronographs and greatly enhance the transmission effect. At the same time, Audemars Piguet’s original approach, using innovative methods to increase sound intensity, solves the problem of unavoidably limiting the sound and reducing the volume of the waterproof function. In the end, Audemars Piguet created a near-silent new timekeeping mechanism adjustment device to further improve sound perception. As a result, the modern waterproof minute repeater is enhanced scientifically in terms of volume, pitch, tone and sound harmony.
This timepiece is the first in the history of a timepiece. It is not just a minute repeater for the wearer’s private use. Its unique sound is an extraordinary experience worth sharing.
The family-run Audemars Piguet invests passion and technical support in research projects, carefully selects and forms research team members, and brings together watchmakers, artisans, technicians and scholars. The inner workings of the instrument are led by a string instrument maker, a prestigious scholar at the Geneva Conservatory is responsible for the subject of sound perception, and an engineer from the Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) in Lausanne is dedicated to improving sound quality. Each participant promotes the improvement of the structure of the research plan, avoiding making it a simple academic activity, while highlighting the expressiveness of the voice.
This new work is a milestone in the long history of Audemars Piguet timepieces, highlighting its innovative, exquisite and unique ideas. By mastering the sound characteristics, it breaks the routine of timepieces.
